The history of the Electra Bicycle Company brand began in 1993 in California, when Benno Benziger and Jehano Erfort founded a company to produce stylish and comfortable urban cruise bikes.

The first Electra bike was a "cruiser" designed specifically for surfers. It had a wide steering wheel on which you could surf, and wide stable tires for driving on a sandy beach.

The key moment was the introduction of the Townie model in 2003 with the patented Flat Foot technology, which provided a more relaxed fit and comfortable ride, which became the basis of the brand's philosophy. Since 2014, Electra has been a subsidiary of Trek Bicycle Company.
