Schindelhauer - German classics

The history of the Schindelhauer Bikes brand began in 2009, when it was founded as an engineering and design team by four engineering friends from Magdeburg. The brand was named by one of the founders and product manager Jörg Schindelhauer, and the name itself reflects the values and traditions of manual labor and continuity (German: "roofer" or "tile maker").

The brand adopted the key philosophy of using the Gates Carbon Drive carbon belt drive, which was characterized by quietness and low maintenance requirements compared to traditional chains.

The team has focused on developing its own components and frames made of high-quality aluminum with a minimalistic, timeless design that has been repeatedly awarded prestigious awards such as the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award.

Today, Schindelhauer remains true to its principles, designing and assembling bicycles in Germany that combine cutting-edge technologies such as belt drive and integrated lighting systems with a classic, elegant design.

Special attention to details

All the components are also well thought out from the very beginning. Time-tested craftsmanship is common; our frames are designed and refined from scratch. Many of the components, such as pedals, levers or handles, are also made by us or in collaboration with other brands that also value the same quality and design. Special attention is paid to consistency, which is also expressed in the name Schindelhauer: unwavering continuity and a cohesive, experienced team, among which the name of product manager Joerg Schindelhauer was chosen to form the company's brand name.

Our team at Schindelhauer Bikes has been steadily growing since 2009. Having started our business in Magdeburg, we later moved to Berlin, to a quiet office on the banks of the River Spree in the lively Kreuzberg district. We are united by a relaxed attitude and a burning desire to meet the needs of our customers and dealers – and, of course, a passion for bicycles.
The company develops bicycles and many components in-house; sales and production management is also carried out from Berlin. Schindelhauer personally thoroughly tests all products; some employees still ride the first models and choose bicycles that are still under development. And, of course, all employees commute to work on their own bike.

Gates Carbon Drive

From the very beginning, the company started developing belt-driven Schindelhauer bicycles, which no one had heard of at that time. This makes them the first manufacturer in the world to design their frames based on the specifics of this type of drive and its special requirements.

With many years of engineering experience, Schindelhauer was able to transfer the advantages of carbon drive technology to a bicycle, taking advantage of all the disadvantages of a chain drive: it does not require lubrication, is easy to maintain, is silent and lasts twice as long as chains. They found a reliable partner with Gates Carbon Drive and, thus, were able to use many years of experience in the field of carbon drive technology application, taking into account special requirements.
