Start with the journey and the storage space
Write down your usual distance, surface and stops. Will the bicycle spend most of its time being ridden, or will you lift it several times on each journey? A model that suits a longer ride may feel different when carried upstairs. Measure the storage space and its opening: a folded bicycle must pass through the door or car-boot opening as well as fit inside.
Ask for all three folded dimensions for the version you are considering, including the effect of pedals, luggage and other fitted accessories. Check where the folded bicycle can stand without blocking an exit. For journeys involving public transport or managed buildings, confirm the operator's current bicycle policy before planning the route.

Compare carrying weight and the folding routine
Think about how often you will lift the bike during a normal day. Try carrying it folded with the bag, lock and other accessories you plan to use, especially if your journey includes stairs.

Choose gearing around your route and preferred pedalling pace. If you want electric assistance, also check charging access, the battery instructions and the rules for your intended route. A small wheel or an electric motor alone does not establish whether a bicycle suits you. Try the specific configuration you expect to buy.
