I had a similar situation to your wife, except my partner understands from his experience. I know some bikes are cooler and whatnot, but if I don't feel safe riding one, I won't use it, which would be a waste of money. I ended up getting quite an old model, but I feel safe, and it works for all my needs. Not a fancy bike in cyclists' eyes, for sure, and it's a lot slower than my partner's bike. However, we get to spend time together. He just needs to slow down. If your wife interested in putting feet on the ground while sitting on the saddle and feel totally safe check Trek Electra. They have a bicycle where feet can touch the ground while sitting on the saddle. I got an Electra Townie Path Go 10D. They have a newer model too, which is even more powerful, but it's not available in my country. Another brand would be Specialized Turbo Como. Or get a bike with a dropper, but it’s still too scary for me.
